I will be visiting Kuredu Beach Resort in the Maldives between June 26th and July 6th 2017 and will operate ‘holiday style’ as 8Q7RN during the visit. I’ll have a Yaesu FT-857  and some wires with me and hope to set up on the north side of the island. Most likely mode/bands is CW on 30, 20 and 17m.  I will upload to ClubLog and LOTW on return home.

QRA: MJ65RN     CQ Zone: 22      ITU Zone: 41

Update:

17m has been very poor, with only a number of Japanese stations being heard and worked. During the day, all other bands are completely dead, however 20m and 30m (the other two bands where I have an antenna) have been coming alive after sun-set, with strong signals into Europe. I have not heard any north American signals yet, though I noted I was spotted on RBN by W3LPL.

A nice surprise was being called on the phone by local ham Ibray 8Q7QC, who later visited us – he works for the resort company. I also spoke with Ibray’s friend Ali 8Q7AM by phone.

Some further ‘holiday snaps showing me, my wife Janet and our non-ham friends Ross and Naz who live in Perth, Australia. The purpose of our holiday was to meet half way.
